Tamura is home to some of Japan's best limestone caverns, most notably the Abukuma Caverns and Irimizu Limestone Caverns. These and other sites around the city have been designated as National Important Cultural Properties or as national or prefectural cultural assets.
There are also several ongoing historical and cultural traditions in Tamura, such as dolls crafted to ward off evil and Abemonjudo Temple, which houses one of the Five Great Monju Bodhisattva in Japan.

Tourism

Tamura is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors in all four seasons. There are the cherry blossoms in spring, beetle-collecting in summer, gorgeous leaves in autumn, and stargazing in winter.
There is so much to discover in Tamura. The Abukuma Caves, for example, are natural artistic masterpieces formed some 80 million years ago--while the Irimizu Limestone Caves (designated as a national cultural monument) offer full-on caving experiences.

Buy / Eat

Tamura is proud of its juicy summer and fall vegetables--especially tomatoes and green peppers. In fact, it is the number-one production area for green peppers in Fukushima Prefecture.
Perilla oil is one of the city's specialty products, which it produces without the use of agricultural chemicals or chemical fertilizers and hand-squeezes.
Among Tamura's many other delicious offerings are Abukuma natural spring water and the ham, sausage, and bacon produced at Ham Kobo Miyakoji.
